With the planned opposition calling off, Shelford 4ths offered to travel.
Many thanks to Shelford 4ths who came to Pickenham Road for a friendly after the planned EC2 match against UEA was called off due to their lack of players. Swaffham soon got into the groove and put the visitors under pressure early on in the scrums, giving the backs some clean possession and opportunity to run. Several breaks were made but the finish was lacking and although Ed Jones slotted a couple of penalties, it was almost 20 minutes before the first try came. A second, then a third, both converted, gave Swaffham a 27-0 lead at the break. Shelford came back in the second 40 and spent long periods in Swaffham’s half. However, Swaffham were breaking through in the backs and managed a try against the run of play. Shelford continued to pressure, and were justifiably rewarded with a score under the posts. Swaffham became more ragged in the latter stages, but managed another couple of tries after some good breaks by Man of the Match Tilbrook.
