Mens Shed Progress News

With activities and access to the Club being restricted due to COVID-19, many of you will not have seen the progress which has been made since we handed over the keys of a former storage shed at North Pickenham Road to Swaffham Men’s Shed to support them in getting their project off the ground.

Before we handed the keys over, a team of senior players lead by Eric Nye carried out a much needed spring clean of our storage areas, and emptied the shed ready for the Shedders, who had kindly built some storage shelves in the Weights Room to allow maintenance materials to be safely stored. We also obtained permission to cut back the conifer hedge adjacent to the shed.

The Shedders, lead by Colin Yorke – who played for the Club in the early 80’s – have cleaned out the shed, built a deck outside it from reclaimed materials, cut back the conifers around the shed and cleared accumulated debris allowing access all around the shed.

A small garden shed donated to Swaffham Men’s Shed is stored on site ready for erection at some point in the future.

All the above work was carried out whilst respecting the various COVID-19 guidelines in force at the time. With lockdown now in force, work on site has been paused.

Progress to date exceeds expectations – the spirit of mutual co-operation between SMS and SRUFC bodes well for the future benefit of all involved!
