Having given everyone a hint last week – “With three potential home wins next week”- you only have yourselves to blame if you missed out on some incredible high points scorers in the three home winning teams. In the first match D. VAN DER MERWE would amass 299.2 points as your captain, and in the second game where player points were hard to come by J.Sexton gained 108.2 as Captain. If you could keep your nerve and wait for the last game for some big points, then B.DUNLIN would have earned 240 points as your Captain at full-back and he ended the Fantasy league as the top average points scorer for the competition. Not surprising is that not a single English or Italian player made the top 30! For all the English out there that voted for Brexit – that was a mistake too, because the only teams England can beat are in Europe!
Special mention to Beanies Babes who were the only team during the competition to earn over 1000 points in a round – he wins a Category 4 ticket to the Rugby World Cup 15th place playoff, and an England supporter’s Irish make-up kit. That high score pushed him up the table by a massive 9 places to 18th. Other big risers were Wacker who moved up six into the top ten, and Cluckie made up for last weeks disaster by moving back up 4 into thirteenth place.
In the Hall of Fame it’s not surprising that the top players appear regularly, Sexton showed in the top five on 5 occasions, with Potter and Tretty both managing 4 appearances in the select group. However, it’s worth noting that although lower down the overall finishing list, there were table topping performances from Kerrison as Super Sub, Beanies Babes as The Greatest and Rivierabrian as The Wall. (He also gets a mention as the only team with a selfie that looks like a spaniel!)
So – Congratulations to Sexton who started a bit slow but once he got his head in front, kept his nerve and even managed to keep ahead of Potter without having Johnny Sexton in his team for the last game! Potter finished in second and maintained his lead over third placed Tretty thanks to an inspired super sub selection which netted him a useful 74 points. These three have shown their expert rugby knowledge and been out in front from the start. It’s nice to know that they are all rugby players who have played for Swaffham 1st team during their careers.
Many Thanks to you all for taking part and entering into the spirit. Final mention goes to Jimmy Freestone for such a ridiculous selfie! I thought for weeks it was just a picture of a sunflower until I realised it’s his face in the middle!
See you for some real rugby soon……….
Since this report was written on Sunday evening, The Fantasy League have updated the points scored! Whilst the positions have remained the same, some of the points totals in the Hall of Fame have been reduced. Unfortunately Beanies Babes only got 984.2 – still, very acceptable……au revoir.
